Lead by a certified guide you will be surrounded by green rolling pastures and lush botanical scenery, this once well traveled road takes us back in time as we make our way through old plantation villages. These historic “backroads” take you over bridges from the early 1900’s. We pass by communities built up and brought down with the industry, and become mesmerized by the abundance of greenery. All while taking in the sights of pristine streams and waterfalls that cascade down from conservation land on the slopes of Mauna Kea.

Botanical World's Zip Line is now even better with 8 lines, the last two that are dual side-by-side zips to share with a friend. The Grand Finale is over a huge 330 foot (100 meter) gorge with a 250 foot (76 meters) waterfall. Our Zip Isle zip Line Adventure is the longest operating zip line on the Big Island for over eight years with an unblemished safety record. With each of the 8 zip lines the excitement builds as the lines get longer as you continue to be thrilled. The amazing views from the suspension bridge will give a story to tell of true Hawaii as you pass the HUGE mango tree hundreds of years old that may have seen Kamehameha walking along the rapids of the stream gorge below. Your guides share the many secrets of the plants, let you taste fruits and spices and relay the history of this unique setting in the rain forest.

With this tour, guests can have a complete Hawaiian Eco Tour Adventure. Combined with the many other features of the World Botanical Gardens and Waterfalls that are included in your admission, you get the best of the Big Island experience in one location.

You will experience the thrill of a lifetime and still will have time to see the other unique features of the Big Island including views of the volcano, waterfalls, whales (in winter), the rain forest, and other nearby wonders that await you.

Before or after you go zip lining, you can view beautiful Kamaee Falls and walk through acres of lush tropical gardens. Non-zip lining family members can stroll through our Rainforest Trail and watch you zip while they experience the beauty of the tropical landscape. Young and old alike can also enjoy strolling through the world's second largest Herbaceous Maze.

The Umauma Falls Waterfall Rappel and River Experience Tour is a 3.5-4 hour tour that takes you into the beautiful Umauma gorge to experience the Umauma River up close and personal. This tour starts with a 250 foot rappel that goes right into the Umauma River. You will explore waterfalls, swim and float down the river, see a 100 year old flume dam that creates an infinity pool effect in the river. Next you will slide down a natural stone formation and rappel down waterfalls, and end your river with an optional cliff jump. The tour concludes at a private swimming pond and pavilion where you are served a deli style lunch. All gear is provided, including a full-body wet suit, flotation vest, helmet, tabis and top of the line rappel gear. Just come with your swim clothes and a change of dry clothes for after the tour. We even provide the towels.

This tour begins at 10:30am with a 10:00 check-in time. Upon checking in, our staff will take the guests lunch order and gather some personal information that will assist us in choosing the proper size wet suits and tabis for the tour. Next, the guests will be walked back at approximately 10:15 to meet their guides, collect their gear and load into the vans for an approximately 10 minute ride to the rappel tour location.

Upon reaching the rappel location, guests will be given a safety orientation and will receive instructions and practice before their initial rappel into the river.

The first rappel is a 250 ft rappel down the side of the valley wall with the last 20 ft being a free rappel directly into the river. Guests will be outfitted with a wet suit and flotation vest so no swimming skills are required. Next, once all guests have completed the initial rappel, they will be able to swim and float with the soft current around the bend in the river to the flume dam. This dam was built in 1910 by the first immigrants that came to the Hawaiian Islands to work in the sugar plantations. This flume was built to take water to villages via a "V" shaped gutter system. Since the top of the dam is perfectly flat, it creates an infinity pool effect and is beautiful for swimming behind.

Shortly after the flume dam, the guests will get to experience a natural rock formation slide into a lower swimming pond. Next, guest will get to experience rappelling down 2 waterfalls (35ft and 25ft respectively). The last portion of the tour is bouldering down the river to the final waterfall where guests will have the option to rappel, jump or hike around. This waterfall is located at our private pond where our pavilion is located. Guests will be served a deli style lunch as they relax and change out of their gear. Our van will return the guests to our Visitor Center where they checked in.

The minimum age and weight for this tour is 8 years old and 80 pounds. Maximum weight is 250 pounds. Participants with a history of neck or back injury or are pregnant may not participate. Participants should be able to handle moderate physical exertion and sturdy legs for bouldering large river rocks.
