Today you will journey from the hotel to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, otherwise known as the City of Refuge. In old Hawai'i, if you had broken the law, the penalty was death. Perhaps you had entered an area that was reserved for only the chiefs or had eaten forbidden foods. Laws, or kapu, governed every aspect of Hawaiian society. The penalty for breaking these laws was certain death. Your only option for survival is to elude your pursuers and reach the nearest pu'uhonua, or place of refuge. Today, you may visit Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, and still feel the spirit of peace and forgiveness that continues to surround and bless this special place. Ka Lae (Hawaiian: the point), also known as South Point, is the southernmost point of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi and of the 50 United States. The Ka Lae area is registered as a National Historic Landmark District under the name South Point Complex. We will also show you a tree planted by Mark Twain.

Created to preserve the natural setting of Kīlauea and Mauna Loa, the park is also a refuge for the island's native plants and animals and a link to its human past. We will spend the day going on hiking trails, driving the Chain of Craters Road, and learning more about the history of the islands.

On our excursion in Hilo, we will go to the Pacific Tsunami Museum. We will drive to the airport and take a helicopter tour over the island and the active volcano. From here, we will take about an hour ride to the district of Puna and visit the new lava flow! Then we return to the hotel. Hawaiʻi has 4 out of 5 of the major climate zones. With Ka Pe’ a (meaning Southern Cross in Hawaiian), we want you to keep the fish that you catch. Every trip is customized for maximum fish-catching enjoyment. By combining local knowledge with dedication and the best gear in the business, we keep our customers on fish.

When you come aboard Ka Pe’ a, you’ll realize why we catch so many fish. We have green stick at our disposal, pinch pullers for bottom fishing, long line for longer Sea Mountain outings, (if and when needed), and all kinds of stand-up top line reels. If you want light tackle to maximize your fishing experience, we have that too in Shimano 50 reels.

For for those wanting a 100 pounds of fish and sore arms, this is the trip to take. Everything is included as well, from the tackle, ice, and two meals a day. We have wine and beer on board and pupus to your heart content.

In order to leave on time, we ask that you arrive at Slip 18 at the Honokahau Harbor at least 20 minutes prior to the departure. Slip 18 is right next to the main boat launch at the harbor. Look for our M&L Sportfishing sign, where there is ample parking. There you will be greeted with our Captain Lincoln Ahlo and crew. We will assist you with boarding and loading all personal belongings. There is ample parking at the harbor.

You will arrive at our home and we will show you around. You have the option to have photo shoots and floats and either evening or morning of your stay. Sunset shoots are pretty epic but morning shoots can include rainbows sometimes. Floating in the morning or at night depends on what you want to use it for. Some people float in the morning and feel more energized and some float in the evening ready to go to sleep. This is your time here, we just give you the space to do it. You know what is best for your body as far as time and what you feel like goes. I look forward to discussing all of this before hand with you in order to make it as relaxing as possible.
